How do YLs learn?

  • They learn best through doing and moving about.
  • They have a short attention span so lots of variety is needed.
  • Understanding is achieved through lots of visual support (pictures, gestures)
  • They enjoy games and stories.
  • They learn best through repetition and constant recycling of new language.
Avoiding the L1 (Greek) in the Young Learners classroom

Why?

- Young Learners pick up the L2 faster and more effectively.
- It is more motivating (especially if they see that they can understand).
